Thornton, IA- Thornton city leaders are looking into buying land from the school district.

The Mayor said they've put in a bid for the former track and football field. He said the city is considering using the land for future development such as homes.

Phil Mclaughlin said the property could potentially help grow the tax base generating more money for the city.

Sheffield-Chapin Meservey-Thornton's superintendent said they plan on putting the school's building back up for sale.
