ALBERT LEA, MN--“These last couple days have been the most intense,” said Councilman Larry Baker.

Saturday marked what some are hoping is the end of a long selection process. “We had a really good entrance of candidates and...it wasn't an easy decision,” said Baker.

“Our hope and the plan was to have a new manager in place, on staff by the first part of May and I think we should be still able to achieve that,” said Mayor Mike Murtaugh.

After a few days of intense information gathering and grilling candidates on a wide array of topics, they've narrowed their list to one. “You could tell he was a very strong leader and he was very excited about Albert Lea,” said Baker.

The council is offering the job to Alan Lanning. “Mr. Lanning seemed to be on the same wavelength as the council and the city as a city that we are and the direction that we're going,” said Baker.

“We really can't afford to, you know stay in limbo too long and I think we're going to be able to keep moving,” said Murtaugh.

And now that the search appears to be over, some say they're excited for the city to move forward.
