MASON CITY, IA--The city of Mason City is considering a project that would provide apartments for people with physical disabilities.

They're considering constructing a ten unit building with wheelchair accessible apartments.

If built, it would go on property already owned by the city on 5th street North East and North Delaware Avenue.

The estimated cost is $1.16 million

“The city owns a piece of land that is a desirable location, close to a grocery store, close to the downtown area where all the services that could be provided for them and so it's an ideal location and we feel that it would be a good fit for that piece of property ,” said Brent Trout, the city administrator.

Trout says the project developer will need to be successful in securing tax credits for the project in order for it to move forward. He says the city council also needs to give it the green light.
