MASON CITY, IA- New child safety technicians are getting some hands-on experience.
They're doing child restraint safety checks at Schukei Chevrolet in Mason City. It's free and only takes 15 minutes to make sure the seat is properly installed. Class leaders say 90 percent of car seats are not installed correctly.
Volunteer Leader for Child Safety Alan Haubrich said, "there may be a mis-use somewhere may be minor may be major but if they bring it down we would check to make sure the car seat is not recalled we would make sure it's installed properly we will instruct parents on proper installation of that child restraint."
Child safety leaders say it's important for all parents to get seats checked out with their child, so they can determine if their height and weight match the seat.
Schukei does these checks on the third Saturday of every month from noon to 4.
