CHARLES CITY, IA - Charles City is getting the "River Town of the Year" award from a group looking to promote the state's waterways.
On Friday, members of the community and city officials received recognition for all their work on the waterfront. This past summer Charles City finished its white water course, making the river safer for the community and wildlife.
But the town has also built a new pedestrian bridge and other community spots along the Cedar River.
Iowa River Revival Board member, Robin Fortney tells us Charles City is showing other towns just how much you can do with a river community.
"From being what we call a more of an adverse relationship with the river to really realizing the asset the river is for this community."
The Board tells us they chose Charles City because the whole community was involved in all the waterfront projects. There were four towns who applied for the award.
