MASON CITY, IA---A Mason City woman is okay after slamming her car into the side of a bank building.

Police were notified about the crash in the 500 block of South Illinois Avenue shortly after 11 a.m. on Wednesday.

The crash cracked part of a brick wall just of the left of an entrance on the U.S. Bank branch and had to be covered up with a large piece of plywood.

The woman behind the wheel of the 2002 Toyota Camry talked to us on the condition she not be identified and said she was planning to stop at the branch.

The 81 year old said she was wearing her seatbelt and didn't know what happened.

She said "it was like my foot went off the brake and slid over."

Toyota has been the subject of recalls over problems with faulty gas pedal mechanisms.

It is not clear if the car in question is covered by any of those recalls.

The driver told us she thinks the mishap was "operator error" and not a problem with her vehicle.
