MASON CITY, IA - Local trick-or-treaters trade in their spoils for a good cause.

The folks at Mason City's Central Park Dentistry are offering their first ever Halloween “candy buy-back.”

Kids trade in their unwanted candy for cash to promote good dental health.

While volunteers say the turnout wasn't huge, they still got plenty of candy to send to our fighting men and women overseas.

"For every pound, they get a dollar,” said volunteer Tiara Jutting. “So the kids get the money, and the candy we collect goes to the troops.”

Dr. Jay Lala, D.D.S said they raised more than fifty pounds of candy to donate to the troops.

The kids are also wrote messages to send to the armed forces, and volunteers said they also had a lot of adults trading in left-over candy for the cause.
