Bullshipper Tournament Scholarship Winner Named

RICEVILLE, IA--A winner is announced for the Bullshipper Memorial Golf Tournament scholarship.

Rueben Sprung of Riceville teen is the recipient of a $400 scholarship from Saturday's first ever, tournament held in Elma.

The event remembers former Riceville Mayor and City Councilman Walt Gabelmann who used to write a column for his local newspaper called "Bullshipping with Walt."

The Family of Walt Gabelmann Presented the award to Sprung of Riceville at the Howard County Fair in Cresco on Sunday.

Sprung graduated high school this year and is going to go to NIACC this fall for Agricultural Operations Management

Rueben has cattle, hogs and sheep that he takes to the fair.

He was chosen by the Howard County Fair Board members.

They observed the students throughout this week.

They chose a student that they felt best exemplified the traits of Walt Gabelmann helping others, honest, caring and leadership.

Rueben was also a member of FFA in Riceville.
