Charles City, IA- A first of its kind park in the state of Iowa will need some tweaking before construction can start in Charles City.
City leaders are planning a riverfront project. It includes a white water course in the Cedar River, a large park area, and places for kids to play.
Charles City Administrator Tom Brownlow says engineers estimated the cost of the project at about $360,000.
They started the bidding process about a month ago.
"The bids came in much higher than expected so in the past week or so we've been talking to the engineer and there's some things we might tweak and we're probably going to go out for a rebid on it," he said.
Brownlow says the lowest bid came in at nearly double the engineer's estimate. He adds the nearest whitewater course is more than 350 miles away.
He's expecting the project will bring in more money to the local economy in its first year than total construction cost.
