BELMOND, IA-The Belmond Medical Center will soon have many changes.
The groundbreaking ceremony for the renovation and expansion project today is marking the start of construction.
The United States Department of Agriculture is loaning the medical center close to 22 million dollars for the project.
That will cover new in-patient rooms, an updated ER area, and expanded clinic areas with a heli-stop on the roof.
Belmond Medical Center CEO Nancy Gabrielson said, "oh how wonderful, it's such a good feeling to finally get to today, we've turned dirt, we have the financing, it's all a go. Take 55 thousand square feet addition it's going to be amazing for us."
Gabrielson expects the addition to be completed by next December. She said the remodeling will start after that.
