FOREST CITY, IA---The preliminary autopsy results are being released from the crash of a plane nearly a month ago in North Iowa.

The Cerro Gordo County Medical Examiner's office said the pilot of the aircraft that went down near the Forest City Municipal Airport on February 12 died from injuries he received in the mishap.

Thomas Shelton, 66, of Destin Florida was at the controls and the only one onboard when the Twin Engine Piper Cheyenne crashed about 2 miles short of the runway as it flew in from St. Louis, Missouri for Columbia Southern University.

Medical Examiner Dr. Stephen Goetz said there is "nothing that shows it was a natural death."

He said toxicology tests are still being run and it could be weeks before they learn the results.

The NTSB is handling the crash investigation.
