Just a kid. Captain Harlan Searle joined the Mason City-based 1133rd at the age of 16. He even fibbed about his age, when enlisting with the Navy on September 10th of 1940.
That decision to become a seaman ultimately brought him to a dark day in American history. The attack that brought the United States into World War II. Searle is a Pearl Harbor survivor.
He's one of more than 100 men and a woman, who got a chance to visit the World War II Memorial in Washington, DC this past October.
