CHARLES CITY, IA--Plenty of area communities had Independence Day bashes Saturday.

America's birthday got a big bash in ‘America's Hometown.’

People came from all around to watch the Charles City parade kick-off Saturday morning.

The parade had plenty to watch and enjoy with lots of floats, music and people throwing candy..

There were plenty of excited spectators in attendance.

One such fan told us the parade was well worth it.

“It's great,” said Earl R. Nikolas. “I had to walk a little ways to get down here but my feet are going to be happy just standing here.”

Nikolas said he makes an effort to attend the Charles City parade every year.

He said he often rides a horse in the event, but this year his mare is pregnant.
