MASON CITY, IA - Some North Iowans are taking time out their day to honor those who died on 9/11.

The folks at the Oakcrest Funeral Home in Algona hosted a ceremony for members of the community on Thursday.

They're raising a flag that was given to them by the "Healing Fields of Central Iowa." On the five-year anniversary, Healing Fields flew a flag for every person killed in the attacks.

Organizer, Brian Schaaf tells us they're also encouraging people to do something nice for the community on Patriot Day.

"We all know in the 10 years since, how many of our national guard troops and army troops and all service members have endured for us."

Local emergency responders and firefighters, as well as more than 60 members of the community, came for the ceremony.
