MASON CITY, IA - New unemployment numbers released Friday show more good news for the economy.

Friday's report showed that the economy added 243,000 jobs last month, the strongest growth in nine months.

The unemployment rate ticked down to 8.3 percent.

Locally the manufacturing industry is seeing the biggest demand for skilled workers, but today's news is a step in the right direction.

“A lot of people have said its going in the right direction but there's still a long way to go if you look at the numbers pre-2008 the numbers have been a lot lower but it’s encouraging signs that things are picking up,” said Tony Burh, manager of Manpower Mason City.

President Obama says the U.S. economy is growing stronger and the economic recovery is speeding up, but said there are still too many Americans looking for work.
