Floyd County, IA--- While many people are bundled up indoors today, some are finding the time to enjoy the winter weather that they've waited months for.
Yesterday's snowfall is helping out one community today.
Charles City is hosting their Cabin Fever weekend, and say the snow came in just the knick of time.
The Cabin Fever event is meant to be a fun weekend to give people a chance to get outdoors, and this year it's less about shaking off the winter blues and more about finally getting to enjoy the season.
Folks headed out to Fossil Park in Rockford to get in some cross country skiing.
The park just got a new trail groomer and it's the first time they've gotten to try it out.
Laura Elfers, a naturalist at the park says, "we were curious to see how this groomer would work in the light and fluffy snow, but the trails are really good, and everyone is having fun."
Wayne's Ski and Cycle donated the equipment for the event so it was free to participate.
Cabin Fever Chairman, Lorraine Winterink, says the weekend was designed for folks in Charles City and surrounding areas to come and enjoy winter and just have a good time."
But outdoors activities weren't the only things planned.
Hy-Vee in Charles City held an Oreo stacking contest, and a food drive for the Messiah Lutheran Food Pantry.
The food drive had a NFL Play-off theme, where people could donate items for the team they thought would win.
Kim Carman with Hy-Vee said they really enjoy helping out the community food bank, and know after the holidays they can sometimes be hurting.
And if cross country skiing and cookie stacking aren't your thing, a quilting group at the Stichery was holding a quilt-a-thon.
The ladies there said it was a good day to stay in and sew.
Joy Frank, said she didn't know how long they would be going, but for sure until they were tired.
Quilters were working on scrap quilts and a baby's blanket.
If you missed any of these events you still have time to check out tomorrow's list and next weekend's.
The ice skating event for Saturday night was cancelled.
