CLEAR LAKE, IA - Folks needing some winter wear for the upcoming season got a helping hand Saturday.
More than 1,400 coats, hats, scarves and gloves were collected for the annual Engage! Winter Outerwear Distribution in Clear Lake.
Organizers say about 200 people came through the door in need of warm outerwear. They say an event like this wouldn't be possible without the generous support of community members.
“All throughout the month of November we have been collecting one by one in boxes all throughout town in Clear Lake hats, gloves, scarves, coats, warm winter outerwear so that today we can give it all away,” said Colleen Thompson, coordinator.
Leftover clothing items are donated to the Toys for Tots campaign.
