MASON CITY, IA---A trial date is set for a lawsuit filed by a church against Mason City and 2 police officers.

Last September Pastor Shane Philpott and his ministry filed a defamation lawsuit against the City, Mason City Police Chief Michael Lashbrook and officer Logan Wernet.

Philpott and his Christian Fellowship Church claim members of the police department made false statements over 6 years.

They claim those accusations led to at least 2 IRS audits and harmed them financially.

In a court filing,  Mason City's lawyers deny City officials did anything wrong.

A trial date is now set for April 18, 2011 in United State District Court in Sioux City, Iowa
