MASON CITY, IA - Local Apple users are looking back at the life of innovator Steve Jobs.
The co-founder of Apple passed away yesterday after a long battle with pancreatic cancer.
Jobs started Apple in his parent’s garage in 1976 and by 1981 he was saying computers would become an essential part of our lives.
Norb Thomes, the graphic design teacher at North Iowa Area Community College teaches classes using Apple products. He says, Jobs was someone he looked up to.
"I also really liked him as an innovator, as an engineer and as a creative spirit. A real American dream kind of guy."
Thomes believes many didn't appreciate the role jobs played in how we use technology today. He explains Apple made things like the computer mouse “mainstream” and even clicking on icons to open applications. Things he says, we all take for granted today.
