MASON CITY, IA - If you're New Year’s resolution is to quit smoking a local program is willing to help.
Quitline Iowa is a free program in the state that provides counseling and resources to those who want to quit smoking.
But recently they've seen a huge increase in calls made to the hotline, as well as an increase in doctor referrals.
Teresa Symens with the Cerro Gordo County Department of Public Health tells us, "physicians are talking to their patients about quitting and helping them find a referral source for information and we know 85 percent of folks who are smoking want to quit."
Folks in the area can access the Quitline through the phone but also online and through text messages.
