A fundraiser might help bring back an Albert Lea landmark sooner rather than later.
The Dress Island bridge was removed by the city because it was deemed unsafe. The Albert Lea Knights of Columbus, along with some other businesses, are organizing a fundraiser to help get the bridge back. The island is a popular fishing spot but no one can get to it without the bridge.
Doug Whalen says the Knights also want to make some improvements to the island.
"We're also intending to put in a couple new benches and a light to make it a little safer out there. More people can fish from it that way," said Whalen. "We're on track to have it in by the 4th of July. Local people like to go out and watch the fireworks from the island."
The Knights are looking to raise between $18-20,000 dollars for the project. Whalen says there have already been many generous citizens making donations.
