MN - The first snowfall of the season, combined with some freezing drizzle, made this a dangerous weekend on area roads.
The Minnesota State Patrol said there were 442 crashes between noon and 8:30 on Saturday. 48 of the crashes resulted in injuries and one of them was fatal.
According to law enforcement, there's one main rule folks should follow when driving in slippery conditions.
"The number one thing when winter conditions hit is to slow down. There's no event that can't wait to get to. Just slow down, take your time to get there, and like the saying goes, arrive alive," said Lt. Darren Hanson of the Albert Lea Police Department.
The Minnesota Department of Transportation also wants to remind drivers about snowplow safety. They say to stay back at least five car lengths behind plows.
