AUSTIN, MN--People of all ages will be walking together next weekend as part of the first "Walk for a Cancer Free World".
The hour long stroll as part of Austin's annual Freedom Fest was created by the Hormel Institute to raise money for cancer research.
It will be on Saturday, July 2 at 3pm. The event is capped off at Bandshell Park with a concert from 4-7pm featuring "Legends of Country & Rock", with tributes to Johnny Cash and Buddy Holly.
The Institute says this is a great way for the community to embrace world renowned research in their own backyard. Public Relations Officer Gail Dennison says, "Not only are we providing jobs to some people that live right here in the Austin area, but the research is done right here. And 100% of a gift to cancer research goes to cancer research."
$8 early registration ends Friday, June 24. You can apply for the walk at Austin's Chamber of Commerce.
You can register the day of the walk at the Hormel Institute, for $10.
