MASON CITY, IA - A local artist couldn't do what she loved after a medical condition left her unable to sketch, but she says things turned around for her when she began a certain kind of treatment.
Jane Heilskov is from Mason City and was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis. She had to give up her hobby for about 14 years because of the chronic, painful condition.
Since taking a biologic injectable medication, she's been able to continue doing what she loves.
“My hands are great and I really feel like it's protecting my joints and I hope I can pretty much live a normal life,” said Heilskov.
A biologic medication can be composed of sugars, proteins, acids or combinations of the three. Cells and tissues can also be included.
