KIMT and our Giving Your Best partners, First Citizens National Bank and Diamond Jo Casino would like to congratulate Jim Kamoss of Charles City, IA as the October Volunteer of the month.

Jim volunteers his time at Washington Elementary School in Charles City. He trims the bushes, weeds the flower gardens, waters the flowers, puts up and takes down the Christmas tree and even helps gets students home from school so that they can stay for after school programs. He is a huge asset to the school.

CHARLES CITY, IA-Every month we take some time to recognize a person who is making a difference in their community.
KIMT News Three and our Giving Your Best partners: First Citizens National Bank and Diamond Jo Casino are introducing us to a man who is making life a lot easier at a local school.

Jim Kamoss is a little surprised to learn he is being honored for his volunteer work at Washington elementary in Charles City.

“Very nice, very flattering, I’m not sure I deserve it thought," said Jim.

He might not think he deserves it...but everyone at this school does.

Amanda Achenvach nominated Jim. She said, "Jim does so much stuff here for all of our teachers especially and a lot of our students and he doesn't get any recognition from anyone except for just us telling him so we thought he was more deserving."

Jim dedicates his free time to the school's courtyard garden...planting flowers and making sure things are kept up.

Jim Kamoss said, "We pull weeds, trim buses, try to make it look nice because it's something that the kids are able to see."

But those working at the school can tell you that's not all he does.

Achenvach said, "Our pop machine, if it's not filled we leave Jim a note and it's filled, he sets up our Christmas tree, does so many things for so many of our students."

These teachers and staff members say Jim deserves this award because he makes this school a great place.
Jim says it's just part of what he likes to do

Jim said, "We still need to make it look nice and it doesn't stay nice unless you put some effort into it."

And it's clear that effort is paying off.
He said, "Just to have people appreciate what you do which they just did."
Jim says he will continue to volunteer as long as he can.

Just a word from Sunny Florida. Hats off to Jim Kamoss for his volunteer services. I work with SCREA, Sumter County Retired Educators and we have an active group of "used to be" educators-teahers, principals, supervisors, etc., who meet monthly , eat, visit, plan and report activities that help us raise scholarship funds for future teachers. Volunteering is fun and helps others.
