CLEAR LAKE, Iowa - Walking into Beth Ann Schumacher's Social Studies class room, it's easy to tell she's not your average teacher.
“I started teaching at Clear Lake in 1980, but, actually started teaching in 1977," said Schumacher.
"She's the advisor for our Mock Trial,” said Senior Alex Furleigh, explaining why he nominated Mrs. Schumacher, “our Model U.N., National Honor Society, she's the prom coordinator, she's a published author."
That dedication to her students has earned her KIMT’s Golden Apple award in the past.
"She's what every teacher should aspire to be,” said Furleigh. “She has all of the qualities of a great teacher, she has the enthusiasm definitely."
And that enthusiasm and love for teaching makes her, once again, KIMT’s Golden Apple award winner.
"It is such an honor,” said Schumacher. “Anytime I have students lift me up for an honor, it means so much to me."
Students tell us Mrs. Schumacher exemplifies what it means to be a teacher. She always has fun with class, and it shows in her teaching.
"She does it with a smile on her face,” said Furleigh. “I've never seen her have a dull moment before."
"I love the job, I love the students, I've got a passion for history and teaching, and that just keeps me going every day," said Schumacher.
For Furleigh, that passion has really showed. Mrs. Schumacher helped him get the grants he needed when given the opportunity to expand his studies.
"I don't think any other teacher would have ever done something like that, especially on the spot. I mean, she truly lives for her students," said Furleigh.
"I get the chance to work with some awesome students who keep me very young," said Schumacher looking back at her class of smiling faces.
