ROCKFORD, IA--
Students say Jym Hansen's classes are different from other teachers': “He got playdough out one time and let us play with playdough and make some plant designs,” said Eric Staudt, a student. And it appears they enjoy his sense of humor too. “Just that he can be a goofy guy sometimes and he's just…fun to be around,” said Staudt.
They enjoy him so much that they've created a Facebook page in his honor “He has a bunch of pretty funny sayings and we started a page on Facebook called Mr. Hansen's official page of sayings,” said Lane Wicks, another student.
But this special teacher says he didn't decide on the profession until his junior year of college. “Wanted to try and do some things for some of the students that some of the teachers I had in high school did for me,” said Hansen.
The instructor, who doubles as FFA coordinator, says he enjoys seeing his students grow. “I think the funnest part is when the students show you and they do something they haven't ever done before,” he said.
And while he says he doesn't consider himself one of the top teachers…..“I guess you just try to do the best you can every day and hope that it works,” he said.
His students politely disagree. “The way he teaches just I thought he should be recognized for the things that he's been doing, he's really been helping us learn a lot better and stuff,” said Staudt.
