Mason City, IA - An important ruling for many Iowans and Minnesotans hits a milestone. People like Diane DiPietro Wilson an attorney at Iowa Legal Aid are celebrating the fair housing act.
It's been 40 years since the act changed the national housing situation. Fair housing guarantees people of all races, abilities and family situations can find suitable places to live.
DiPietro Wilson said she's proud of how far fair housing has come even though there is still room for improvement.
"Our society is better educated and has heard about the laws of course there will always be pockets of resistance" said Wilson.
If you are a landlord and want more information about the fair housing act you can attend a free workshop sponsored by the Mason City Human Rights Commission. It is at 6:00pm at the Mason City Room at the Mason City Public Library on April 23.
